"The 2017 Robert J. Gablosky Memorial Scholarship was awarded to Holly McGrath, a Haverhill High graduate continuing art study at Massachusetts College of Arts & Design. Music was provided by Jake Baynes (a sophomore in the Pentucket Jazz Group) and
an arrangement by Holland Flowers was given as a door prize. A silent auction began and will continue through the Annual Open Exhibit: your bid on a painting by Robert Gablosky will contribute to his memorial scholarship fund."

Pentucket Jazz Combo Takes Third At Berklee Jazz Festival!
" Our guitarist, Jake Baynes, was honored with both the Judges Choice Award – given to one student within each ensemble deemed to have demonstrated the highest level of performance, and the Outstanding Musicianship Award – given to only 3 standout students within each division of the competition. This is a significant achievement considering there were over 70 students in our division, and this is Jake’s first year in the Jazz Combo."

Last month, the Jazz Combo earned gold at the Massachusetts Association of Jazz Educators’ Jazz Combo Competition with outstanding musicianship awards given to Jake Baynes, Derek Skala and Leo Belyi. Earlier in the year, the combo took third place at the Berklee College of Music’s nationwide High School Jazz Festival, with Baynes receiving the Outstanding Musicianship Award.

Improper Bostonian - The Good Ones
"Young professionals flocked to Mohr&McPherson's South End showroom for The Good Ones' first party of the year on Jan.13. Fourteen-year-old guitarist Jake Baynes performed at the Chinese Dragon Party, which drew some 80 guests and highlighted Lisa Guyer's Music Empowerment Program, an initiative that offers weeklong sessions for young artists." Pentucket Jazz Musicians shine...
"After a two-year drought, the Pentucket High School Jazz Combo returned to the podium at the Berklee College of Music High School Jazz Festival this month, with a 3rd place in its division, and two musicianship awards for its guitarist, Jake Baynes.
Baynes won both the Judges Choice Award, "given to one student within each ensemble deemed to have demonstrated the highest level of performance," and the the Outstanding Musicianship Award, received by three students from each division who stood out to the judges.
"This is a significant achievement considering there were over 70 students in our division – and this is Jake's first year in the Jazz Combo," said Pentucket's director of jazz, David Schumacher."
